It’s easy to over-simplify worship with our definitions. It happens all the time. It’s also easy to over-philosophize worship. This too happens much. I would like to humbly submit that worship, amongst other things, is the act by which we keep God in His place and we keep ourselves in ours. Do you acknowledge in this moment that God is the sovereign ruler of your life? Are you willing to move with His promptings thus acknowledging He is great and you work in His name?

Join us tonight at the AXIS Gathering as we unite our hearts and share this view of life in common!

Do you ever feel dysfunctional? Do you allow actions in your past to define you? Do you wonder if your life is substantial? If so, I have good news. You can become a whole person. You can be remade. You can live a life that matters. This is the operative work of the church: to be transformed by the power of Jesus and to join Him in changing the world. That’s why the AXIS vision is to, “Become whole & Remake the world through Jesus.” When I relay this to people often their response is, “Well, that sounds great…but HOW???”

That question will be answered in our first teaching series of the year – an eight-week journey through Acts chapter two in the Bible. Join us as we discover how to bring debased spiritual practices back to life. In doing so, perhaps you will come alive as well.

On Wednesday night, Josh talked about the kingdom of heaven, and the parable of the man who found treasure in the field and sold all that he had to buy the field. He knew that was what he had to do. He knew that was where the kingdom was. Where is this field in your life? Would you be willing to make sacrifices to get this field? The kingdom of heaven is right in front of us. It is our choice to acknowledge God and see what He is calling us to do. Like Jake said a couple weeks ago, hearing God is a skill. One last question. Are you experiencing the kingdom in your life?

Acts 2:43, “Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe.”

Acts 2:43, “Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe” or literally, “Their souls were being filled with fear.”

+As humans we are made to fear. You are not meant to play it safe!

+There are two types of fear: Terror & Exhilaration

-The terror kind is to be avoided: Luke 1:13, Mark 6:50, 2 Timothy 1:7

-The Exhilaration kind is to be desired: Luke 9:34, Mark 16:8, Ps. 111:10

+Because you’re made to fear, you’ll always live under one of these. Which do you live under?

-Living under the wrong kind of fear causes you to numb: busyness, dancing, drinking, vegging out, shopping, gaming

-Some fear is too gargantuan to anesthetize-this fear feels like the ocean: enormous, daunting, destructive

-Living under the right kind of fear is what makes you feel alive

+Both fears are represented in Mark 4:36-41 (read)

-The disciples 1st experience the wrong kind of fear, and then immediately the right kind

-Driven by awe the disciples ask, “Who is this who speaks to waves and they listen to him?”

-This should become the question of your life: “Who is this?” When Jesus leads your life, it’s a life lived in awe!

+You are not made to play it safe – The Challenge this week:

-Practice God’s presence

-Pray for Awe

-Do what He Says (No matter how weird)

Join us Wednesday the 8th as we take a look at Acts 2:43.

Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders & signs were taking place through the apostles.

Acts 2:43 (NASB)

Have you ever heard that fear is a subtle form of atheism? I have. For years this idea has been a source of guilt for me. And that’s because I tend to worry about things. Some of the stuff that concerns me is legitimate. But sometimes I turn the slightest of possibilities into inevitable realities. After all, a giant meteor “could” knock earth off it’s AXIS (no pun intended). But what if you were made to fear? What if fear is part of what it means to be human? What if fear is what it means to be alive? And what if there’s a right way to do it? After all, it is a characteristic of the early church… “Everyone’s soul was filling with fear” Acts 2:43. Join us tonight as we learn how to fear together.
